Dr. Blum has been helping clients in his private practice and a variety of clinical settings for over 25 years. He attended college at the State University of New York at Albany, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He attended graduate school at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1980. Along the way, he completed an internship at the University of Tennessee Medical School.
Early in his career, Dr. Blum specialized in the treatment of addictions. For six years, he was the Program Director of Valley Hope–Lincoln, a private non-profit outpatient treatment center for alcohol and drug addictions. He has served on a Governor’s Task Force for the comprehensive management of sex offenders, and has shared his expertise in sex-offender treatment as a guest on the NBC Today Show. He has taught Psychology classes at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. His interest in Christian therapy led to his work as the Supervising Psychologist at the Oasis Counseling Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Throughout his career, Dr. Blum has maintained his private practice, providing outpatient therapy for individuals and couples, in addition to his consulting, teaching and supervisory work. Since 2009 he has exclusively devoted his working energy to his private practice.
Dr. Blum grew up on Long Island, New York, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean. He has lived in Nebraska since 1973. He is married, and he and his wife, Kathy, share their home with a Ragdoll cat named Mishu. He enjoys biking, taking long walks, meditation, poetry, music, and nurturing spiritual growth.
